Although most of our work is focused on training teachers, we also teach students classrooms. Every time we are in Afghanistan, we hear from new schools that want our teaching.
One of our favorite schools is Aschiana. Aschiana, actually a small network of schools, is specially focused on providing education to street children. These are children who may have lost parents in the conflict Afghanistan has experienced over the last thirty years. The children have to work on the street during the day, and cannot attend school during regular hours. Aschiana allows children to attend when they are able.
As with our teacher training, we emphasize an inquiry approach to learning, as opposed to the current rote memorization method used in most schools.
